Canongate's History

After a 40-year absence of Catholic secondary education in the Asheville area, Canongate Catholic High School opened September 4, 2013. In our decade of serving the Western North Carolina community, Canongate has steadily grown & had college placements and scholarships at the University of Dallas, UNC Asheville, UNC Charlotte, Belmont Abbey College, Ave Maria University, Catholic University of America, Christendom College, Western Carolina University, St. Joseph Minor Seminary, and more.

  • Canongate is officially recognized as an affiliate Catholic High School in the Diocese of Charlotte
  • Recipient of St. John Paul II Award for teaching ethics
  • Offers the Classic Learning Test in addition to the SAT and ACT
  • Policy guidance provided by The Cardinal Newman Society
  • Affiliate School of the Institute for Catholic Liberal Education
  • Candidate for membership in The National Association of Private Catholic and Independent Schools
