Tony Tibbetts is a History teacher at Canongate who was born and raised in Sioux Falls, SD. He was recently married in August and now lives with his wife in Vienna, Austria. When he’s not teaching, he spends most of his time either cooking or traveling to various historical locations in and around central Europe.
Born and raised Catholic, he gained great interest from an early age in how the Church has influenced the world around him. This led him to pursue a B.A. in History with a minor in Catholic Studies from the University of Mary in Bismarck, ND. Tony graduated top of his class in history, earning the Christopher Dawson Award for Excellence in History. His history research has been primarily on cultural, social, and religious history in Europe during the Early Modern to Modern periods, with special interests in French and French Revolutionary history. His Undergraduate Thesis was on Church/State relations between Pope Pius VI and the French Government surrounding the Civil Constitution of the Clergy and the papal encyclicals Charitas and Quod Aliquantum.
This is his third year in the teaching workforce, and while maintaining a focus on History, he has also taught classes in Literature, English, Geography, Philosophy, and Theology.
