“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”
-Proverbs 22:6
Born and raised in Wisconsin, Julie graduated the University of Wisconsin Madison with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. Upon graduating, she relocated to Asheville. There, Julie began working as an Administrative Assistant for the Basilica of St. Lawrence. Simultaneously, Julie enrolled at Western Carolina University for graduate school, and earned a Master of Arts in Teaching Secondary Social Sciences Grades 9-12.
Subsequently, Julie worked for Buncombe County Schools, teaching subjects such as A.P. Macroeconomics, A.P. Government, U.S. History, and Civics & Economics. When she and her husband, Jacob, decided to homeschool their children, she left the conventional public school sector.
Lately, Julie has felt called toward classical Catholic liberal education. She believes this educational method is the most effective way to form both the spirit and the mind. She seeks to develop strong leaders, to nurture curiosity and wonder, and to encourage students to seek Truth, Goodness, and Beauty by viewing history through a classical Catholic lens. And so, this school year Julie left her role as high school history and literature teacher at a local homeschool ministry, and she will join the Canongate community teaching U.S. History. Julie is grateful for the opportunity to educate and form the young individuals of Canongate Catholic High School.
Currently, Julie is a homeschooling parent of our five young kids. Educating her own children has been the most humbling and joyful experience. In her spare time, Julie enjoys growing her homestead, and caring for her horses, sheep, goats, chickens, dogs, and cats. She is an avid runner, reader, and writer. Julie delights in nature, enjoys collecting old and unique stuff, and relishes learning new languages.
